Three different routes for Parikrama

The path of the giriraj parikrama can be varied according to ones strength. It has three different routes. The more the distance the more are the spots of Shri Krishna's leelas are seen. The different routes are as follows:
  1. Saat-kosi Parikrama(generally prefferred route) : The distance is seven kos (21 kms). The route of this parikrama is from Mukharvind (Jatipura) - Govardhan village - Mansi Ganga - Udhav kund - Radha kund - Anyuar village - Govind kund - Poochri village - Surabhi kund - back to Mukharvind.
  2. Panch-kosi Parikrama : The distance is five kos (15kms).This route goes straight from Govardhan village to Anyuar village, skipping Radha kund on the way.
  3. Nav-kosi Parikrama :The distance is nine kos (27 kms).In this route Chandra sarovar is added to the route after Govardhan village is crossed.

Doodh Dhara

This ritual of Parikrama is considered to be even better if is it done with milk.
  1. A clay pot filled with milk, with a hole at the bottom, is carried by the devotees in one hand and a pot filled with dhoop (incense smoke) in another.
  2. An escort continuously fills up the pot with milk till the parikrama is completed.
This kind of parikrma takes around 7 to 12 hours because holding milk pot requires caution and speed of parikarama gets slower.

Dandvat

Dandavata Parikrama is performed by standing in one spot, offering obeisances like a stick (danda) by lying flat on the ground and then continuing, contiguously, till the entire route is covered. This kind of parikrama can take anywhere between 4 to 7 days.

Moksh Dandvat

  1. It is performed by doing 108 or 1008 obeisances in one spot before moving to the next. This takes quite a long time to complete.
  2. Those who are physically challenged or old or are unable to take the parikrama by foot due to physical issues . They are advised to complete the parikrama by sitting in rickshaw , tonga ( Horse cart ) or by Car.
